Klio privacy policy

BRYLABS ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Klio application ("App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use and protect your information when you use our App.

1. Our privacy-first approach

Klio is designed with privacy as a core principle. We do not operate servers that store your personal data. Your journal entries, photos and personal information remain under your control at all times.

2. Data storage

Local storage: All your journal entries, settings and preferences are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework.

iCloud sync: Your data is automatically synced to your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. This data is end-to-end encrypted by Apple and is only accessible by you. We do not have access to your iCloud data.

3. Information we access

Klio may request access to the following, only with your explicit permission:

• Photos: When you choose to add photos to a journal entry, Klio accesses your photo library. Photos are only accessed when you explicitly select them and are stored locally or in your iCloud. We do not upload your photos to our servers.
• Location: If you enable location tagging, Klio accesses your device's location to tag journal entries with where they were created. This location data is stored only on your device or in your iCloud. We do not track your location or store it on our servers.

4. AI-powered features

Klio offers optional AI-powered writing assistance through the "Write with Klio" feature. When you use this feature:

• Selected photos and your responses to prompts are processed by Google's Gemini AI service to generate journal entry suggestions.
• This processing occurs only when you actively use the AI writing feature.
• We do not store the data sent for AI processing on our servers.
• Please review Google's Privacy Policy for information about how they handle data processed through their AI services.

You can always write journal entries manually without using the AI feature. The AI assistance is completely opt-in.

5. Data we do not collect

We do not collect, store or have access to:

• Your journal entries or their contents
• Your personal photos
• Your location history
• Personal identifiers such as your name, email address or device ID
• Usage analytics or tracking data

6. Subscriptions and payments

Klio uses Apple's StoreKit 2 for in-app subscriptions. All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple. We do not have access to your payment information, credit card details or Apple ID.

7. Third-party services

Klio uses the following third-party services:

• Apple CloudKit: For iCloud sync (end-to-end encrypted).
• Apple StoreKit 2: For subscription management.
• Google Gemini AI: For optional AI writing assistance.

We do not use any advertising networks, analytics services or tracking tools.

8. Data retention

Since your data is stored locally on your device or in your personal iCloud account, you have complete control over data retention. You can delete individual journal entries or all app data at any time through the app or your device settings.

9. Children's privacy

Klio is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can address the situation.

10. Your rights

Because your data is stored locally and in your personal iCloud, you maintain full control and ownership of your data. You can:

• Access all your data directly through the app
• Delete any or all of your data at any time
• Export your journal entries
• Revoke photo or location permissions through your device settings

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
