The microphone records only while your chosen key is held, then prepares the audio for transcription.

On-device models

Parakeet or Whisper transcribes the recording locally, then rule-based cleanup formats the text.

Dictation that stays on your Mac

Notiqflow is a free, open-source macOS app for dictating notes, messages and longer passages without sending the recording to a cloud service.

The toolkit

Controls for everyday dictation:

  • Hold-to-talk: Hold the fn key or a modifier combo, speak, release.
  • Text cleanup: Rule-based processing removes fillers, fixes spacing and handles spoken commands.
  • Optional local editing: Use a local language model for grammar, self-corrections and formatting.
  • Flow Bar feedback: A visual indicator confirms when Notiqflow is listening.

Private by design

The app does not need your recording to leave the computer:

  • On-device transcription: Powered by NVIDIA's Parakeet and OpenAI's open-source Whisper.
  • No cloud uploads: Audio and text never leave your Mac.
  • No accounts: There is no sign-in or user profile.
  • Open source: The source code is available for inspection.

Notiqflow costs $0 AUD. There are no subscriptions or usage charges.
